CATALINA 30 MKII In 2016 we spent months looking for the perfect boat to sail around the world, only to realize we really didn't know what we needed. We had many ideas on what we wanted in that "perfect" boat but those ideas were not based off any solid sailing knowledge, and definitely not from years of sailing experience. In fact, we were both new to sailing. Sure I (Bobby) had a lot of sea time under my belt from my years in the Navy, but that was on ships, and they didn't have sails, plus you can't see much from the engineering decks, deep down in the hull. Anyway, back to the boat hunting story. We decided to stop looking for the forever boat and find something smaller to practice on and gain some knowledge. We found this nice Catalina 30, 1989 with a fin keel and tall rig. She was clean, well kept, and sitting on the Albemarle Sound in Edenton, NC. A great place to learn to sail, play around and have some fun. We bought her with a plan to sail on the weekends, but as life would have it, things changed and we ended up living on her full time. |
Our new home is an Island Packet 38 and she is sitting in Charleston, SC. We will be taking the Catalina 30 from Edenton, NC down the ICW to make the change over to the new boat. Then we'll put the Catalina on the market in Charleston. The Catalina 30 is still our home for the next few months.
* Update* The Catalina has sold* |
